BIRDS ON A CAROUSEL
book of short stories and vignettes
This book came out of a desire to dive into abstract realms of writing. I wanted to allow myself the freedom to put down and depict whatever came out of inspiration, to play with words, and to experiment and wander through the creation of stories without the bounds of convention and familiar plot structure. I believe that the way someone observes, notices, muses, the memories they have and thoughts they receive are insightful indications of who they are, and I wanted to explore that, to create characters and unravel the minds of the narrators by going straight to their visceral centres. And to paint stories by drawing upon and fictionalising certain memories and feelings of my own.
Through fictional minds in stories, narrative musings, and stream-of-consciousness prose, Birds on a Carousel is a book in twelve parts, reflecting on creativity, adventure, memories, and connection.
Praise for Birds on a Carousel:
"Gorgeous, visceral and deeply personal. Told through short stories and vignettes, we're invited to engage in unfettered, floating philosophical musings. Fans of Lispector would like this book, it explores human connection and the celebration of life in a loose and incredibly poetic way."

"There's a sense of beauty, peacefulness, tranquillity in all of the stories, with the narrator offering a meandering, almost meditative voice that from time to time drifts into the realm of magical realism."
—Tom Ghostly
"Koah writes beautifully and his vocabulary is very rich, which gives each sentence a grandiosity and poetic feel that isn’t very common in contemporary literature. Melancholia, sentimentalism and romanticism are words that come to mind after reading this book."
